When it comes to drunk driving accidents, people tend to think authorities file charges, and that’s all there is to it. Well, authorities do typically do that, but the reality is there’s often an accomplice to these accidents who authorities overlook: a bar.

Simply put, alcohol providers in Texas can be on the hook if the illegally over-serve someone who’s obviously intoxicated, and it leads to people getting hurt. I’ve handled hundreds of cases against these negligent alcohol providers, and it’s shocking how often my team and I are the ones putting these establishments on the authorities’ radar for the first time. It’s just not a high priority for a lot of cities and counties around Texas to seek these alcohol providers out the same way authorities go after drunk drivers.

If authorities were more proactive, they’d see what I’ve seen throughout my career. Holding negligent alcohol providers accountable gets victims and families a just resolution, and it gets those establishments to clean up their act so they don’t continue to harm anyone else. That’s why I can’t help wondering what steps, if any, authorities are taking beyond investigating a single individual’s actions.
