While it seems like authorities were keen to see consequences for this accident, it’s possible there’s another wrongdoer out there who still needs to be held accountable. After any accident involving a drunk driver, it’s important to find out where the alcohol came from.
If evidence shows a bar or similar establishment unlawfully over-served the driver, the alcohol provider could also be responsible. They may be exposed to criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, and liability for injuries the intoxication leads to.
Generally speaking, not many people even know this area of the law exists. Once a driver is facing charges, folks tend to just move on. But I’ve seen first hand how holding negligent alcohol providers accountable is helpful for victims and families and the community as a whole. So if that’s something that happened here, there needs to be investigations to bring the responsible establishment to account.
