Dallas, TX — November 1, 2024, a teenager was injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 2:14 p.m. along the LBJ Freeway.
According to preliminary details, the crash took place along eastbound lanes of I-635 near Marsh Lane.
Investigators said that an 18-year-old was a passenger in a Hyundai Sonata traveling along LBJ. A Chevy Tahoe reportedly failed to control speed, and a crash occurred with the Hyundai.
Due to the collision, the 18-year-old sustained serious injuries. It’s unclear if anyone else was hurt. Authorities allege that the Chevy driver was under the influence of alcohol. No further information is available.

Allegations of drunk driving are obviously serious, and that’s why they typically carry consequences. What tends to elude people, though, is what those consequences actually should be. While folks obviously agree drunk drivers should face appropriate consequences, they think that’s where the story ends. A lot of the time, there’s an accomplice who also should face consequences: a negligent alcohol provider.
Simply put, if an alcohol provider unlawfully over-serves an obviously intoxicated person, that establishment can potentially face criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, and liability for injuries resulting from that intoxication. So not only are there legal avenues to hold establishments accountable for their role in a serious accident, they can also be put on the straight-and-narrow so they don’t continue putting lives at risk.
Yet time and time again, I see alcohol related crashes where authorities don’t at all go beyond the crash scene in their investigations. I’ve handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers, and I can’t count how many times it was our investigations putting a bar or liquor store on the authorities’ radar. It’s possible such factors weren’t involved in this particular crash, but I bring up these possibilities because it’s important for people to realize there could be more to the story than authorities are letting on.
