While details can’t be entirely confirmed right now, it sadly wouldn’t be surprising at all if alcohol led to this crash. almost every time someone gets on the wrong side of a major highway, it’s because they were intoxicated. Not only does this raise concerns about potential consequences for that driver, but it also raises important questions about where the alcohol came from. There could be a negligent alcohol provider also responsible for the accident.
Simply put, if an alcohol provider serves someone who is obviously intoxicated, they can potentially face criminal investigations, fines, suspended licenses, or liability for the resulting injuries. Too often, investigators focus so narrowly on drunk drivers for their own actions. Those drivers do need to answer for their actions, but alcohol providers who over-serve people to the point they can’t tell which side of the interstate they’re on are a huge risk to the community. That means they, too, should face appropriate legal consequences whenever possible.
I’ve handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers, and they too often fly under the radar. It usually takes victims and families pursuing independent investigations to finally bring them to light and ensure they’re held accountable for their role in the accident. Maybe authorities have been more thorough here are looked into the possibility of a complicit alcohol provider. Frankly, though, that’s not something I would ever take for granted.
