Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the truck experienced a front-right tire blowout, causing the truck to veer to the right and leave the roadway. It reportedly crashed through a bar ditch and collided with some trees and a barbed wire fence, leading both the truck and trailer to overturn, coming to a stop resting on its left side.

Reports state that Marfull sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident and was declared deceased at the scene. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When a truck accident is attributed to a tire blowout, the key question isn’t just what happened, but why it happened. In my experience handling truck accident cases, wrecks like this rarely occur without multiple contributing factors that need to be examined.

What caused the tire blowout? While tire failures can happen suddenly, they’re often the result of underlying issues. Was the tire worn out, improperly inflated, or past its service life? Did the truck strike debris in the road? Investigators should examine maintenance records, tire age, and the crash site to determine whether the blowout was preventable.

Was the truck’s maintenance up to standard? Trucking companies are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are properly maintained, including regular tire inspections and replacements. If the truck was operating with tires that were overdue for replacement or had existing damage, that could indicate a failure in routine upkeep. Investigators should review maintenance logs and inspection reports to determine whether proper procedures were followed.

Did the driver have enough control to respond? Losing a front tire at highway speeds can make it difficult to steer, but professional drivers are trained to handle tire blowouts safely. Investigators should assess whether speed, weight distribution, or other factors influenced the severity of the crash.

Did broader issues contribute to the crash? If the trucking company failed to enforce maintenance standards, ignored tire wear issues, or pressured drivers to operate vehicles in less-than-optimal conditions, those failures could be relevant in understanding why this crash happened. Investigators should review company policies, safety records, and past violations to determine whether broader issues played a role.

At the end of the day, the most important thing is finding answers. Even if it takes an independent investigation to gather the right evidence, it’s critical to examine every factor to ensure those affected by the crash get the clarity they deserve.
