There’s plenty of concern to go around any time someone is accused of causing an intoxicated driving accident. When that someone is a teenager, though, it raises even more serious concerns. For example, if alcohol was the intoxicant here, how did someone under the legal drinking age get the alcohol?

Investigating where a driver got their alcohol is nothing new for me. I’ve handled hundreds of cases involving drunk drivers, and finding out if they were unlawfully served should frankly be standard procedure. Generally speaking, it’s not something typically on the authorities’ radar. But perhaps the accused being just 18 changes that and motivates them to extend their investigations beyond the crash scene itself. After all, there could be more than one person who needs to answer for actions which ultimately got a man killed. That’s not something that warrants just a run-of-the-mill, haphazard investigation. The victim’s loved ones deserve to know they’re getting the whole story.
