Hillsborough County, FL — May 6, 2023, an Alabama man was killed and a Ruskin man was injured following a truck accident at around 2:43 a.m. on U.S. 41.

Preliminary details about the truck wreck given by Florida Highway Patrol officials say the crash took place near the intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and Bloomingdale Avenue.

Alabama Man Killed, Ruskin Man Injured in Truck Accident on U.S. 41 in Hillsborough County, FL

Authorities reported that a 49-year-old Montgomery, Alabama man was in a gas tanker truck traveling along the highway. Due to events not entirely clear, authorities believe a sedan somehow crashed into the back of the gas truck while attempting to “overtake” it. The collision sparked an explosion from the tanker truck.

As a result of the accident, the Alabama trucker succumbed to fatal injuries. The car ran off-road and overturned. That driver, said to be the 23-year-old Ruskin man, had injuries described as serious. No further information about the factors leading up to the crash are available at this time.
