Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When people hear about crashes like this one, it’s easy for them to assume they are a result of simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving large trucks often require thorough investigations to understand all contributing factors.

In this incident, the circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation. It is essential to determine why the 18-wheeler veered out of its lane and caused a chain reaction of collisions. Factors such as mechanical failure, driver fatigue, or even external conditions like road obstructions should be considered. Each of these elements can play a significant role in accidents involving large trucks.

The involvement of a legally parked truck on the shoulder adds another layer of complexity. Investigators need to assess whether the truck was adequately visible and properly parked according to safety regulations. Additionally, the parked truck’s location and the conditions surrounding it at the time of the accident could be pivotal in understanding the sequence of events.

Moreover, the trucking companies responsible for the involved 18-wheelers may share in the responsibility for the accident. If any of the companies failed to enforce safety protocols, properly train their drivers, or ensure that their vehicles were in good working order, they could be held accountable for their roles in the crash.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
