Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Reading this just makes my heart sink, to say the least. How could anyone put the loss of a child into words? What really stands out is the description of the van going slowly or being stopped, but the reasons why that could be the case are vastly different.

Was it simply due to traffic congestion? Was this in a construction zone? Were weather conditions poor? Or, was the van experiencing some kind of mechanical issues? Were its taillights and/or hazard lights on? Would a reasonably prudent truck driver have been able to see and avoid hitting the van, or was this truck driver doing something that prevented them from avoiding an otherwise avoidable crash?

Hopefully authorities are taking this as seriously as is warranted for a crash taking the life of a young child. There needs to be clear answers about what happened here and how it all could have been avoided.
