Nacogdoches, TX — August 27, 2024, one person was injured as the result of an 18-wheeler accident that happened around 8:18 p.m. along Douglass Road.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of the Douglass Road and N.W. Stallings Drive intersection.

According to officials, a Chevy pickup was traveling westbound along Douglass at the time. Up ahead, authorities say that an 18-wheeler failed to yield while attempting a u-turn. In doing so, it entered the path of the pickup, and the pickup crashed into the 18-wheeler. Due to this, the pickup driver reportedly was left in critical condition.
Right now, there are no additional details available.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It wouldn’t be too surprising if authorities reported charges eventually, considering they believe the 18-wheeler failed to yield. But that may not be the end of the story. Even when a U-turn is legal, I’ve known companies who would outright fire drivers for even attempting one due to how inherently dangerous they can be. It makes me wonder what kind of company this driver worked for and whether or not their actions culminated in this serious crash.
Simply put, there are companies out there who actually encourage reckless driving. Not long ago, for example, we had a case against a company that would set unreasonable deadlines, expecting drivers to speed, skip breaks, neglect maintenance, take shortcuts, and otherwise cut any corner possible to meet the deadlines. If they didn’t, they essentially weren’t given any work, meaning they either found somewhere else to work or they eventually relented and appeased their selfish, unreasonable bosses. Inevitably, this led to people getting hurt.
Unfortunately, these companies are a lot more common than folks may realize. Any responsible trucker out there will attest to the fact some employers care more about their bottom line than the safety of others and even their own drivers. That’s why simply putting all of the blame on a reckless driver is often only telling half of the larger story. If there was a company involved here who encouraged or allowed dangerous conditions to exist, they, too, need to face appropriate consequences. Not only is there a family out there who deserves to see accountability for all of this, but there could be a company still putting the public at risk who needs to clean up their act before more people get hurt.
