Tyler, TX — November 25, 2024, three workers were injured as the result of a stair collapse that happened on the UT Tyler Campus.
Right now, there are few details about the accident available. Investigators have said only that it occurred on campus during work for a “planned demolition”. For reasons which are unclear, a collapse occurred, causing three workers to sustain injuries. They were taken for treatment of reportedly non-life-threatening injuries. Regardless of what happened here, resolving things for those involved could prove to be a lot more challenging than folks may realize. Simply put, Texas has the most complex work accident laws of any other state in the country. Employers are not required to subscribe to the workers’ comp system. This means some workers and families assume there is an automatic path to guaranteed benefits only to find that there is no guaranteed path, and they’re on their own. Texas work accident law is indeed a legal maze at times, but it is one that can be navigated. That’s why it’s important for folks to understand what path lies ahead for them so they can take the proper steps to prepare themselves.
