Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Kia Sorento failed to appropriately control its speed for the traffic conditions. As a result, it reportedly rear-ended a Chevrolet pickup truck. That collision caused the pickup to be pushed forward, leading to a secondary collision between the front-end of the pickup and the back-end of the Kia Forte.

Sandoval suffered serious injuries, according to reports, and the young boy sustained moderate injuries, as well. They were both transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
