There isn’t enough information about this crash for anyone to be drawing conclusions, but certain details do stand out to me. Primarily, anytime a truck is across lanes of travel, it’s always a red flag. There are very few scenarios where a truck can make that maneuver safely. There could be extenuating circumstances to consider, but I have to wonder what steps are being taken here to gauge whether or not this truck driver was reasonable in their behavior.

Let me give an example of what I mean. I had a case not long ago where an 18-wheeler was turning across a dark highway, and a car crashed into the trailer. The officials story the family received said that the victim was speeding and hadn’t been wearing their seatbelt, but that seemed like unusual behavior. They wanted to make sure authorities weren’t making a mistake. Through our independent investigations, it turned out they were.

The evidence actually showed the victim had been going at reasonable speeds prior to the collision. Also, numerous emergency responders testified they had to cut through the victim’s seatbelt to get them out of the car. And on top of that, the reflective tape on the trailer was so caked in dirt that it would have been all but invisible when the crash occurred. With all of that evidence, it was clear the original reports were mistaken, and the truck driver was being reckless trying to cross a highway while a car was approaching them.

To be clear, I’m not saying all that happened here. My point is that this soon after a serious truck wreck, conclusions should be taken with a grain of salt. Unless there have been extensive, thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash, there isn’t likely to be enough evidence to say what ultimately happened here. If authorities haven’t continued taking steps to get answers here, there could still be more to this that needs further attention.
