If the news got its facts straight about what happened here, then it’s good that authorities were able to locate the driver. But just because that driver is facing charges doesn’t mean that’s all there is to this story. There also should be consideration for where a 20-year-old got their alcohol from. It may have been sold to them unlawfully.

The reason that’s a serious concern is due to the types of establishments that unlawfully serve alcohol to people who are underage. I’ve had hundreds of cases against alcohol providers who unlawfully over-served someone to the point they caused a serious accident. Many of those cases involved alcohol providers who served minors, and those types of establishments typically are breaking all kinds of rules. They put their community in danger, and they simply keep doing so as long as no one holds them accountable for their actions.

That’s why it can be frustrating when an accident like this happens, authorities throw everything they can at the reckless alleged drunk driver, but then they just move on. There could be an accomplice to this. Shouldn’t they, too, face appropriate consequences? Generally speaking, victims and families don’t just want some bad guy to blame; they want to see accountability for the wrongs done to them. Are those steps being taken here?
