Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When people hear about crashes involving large trucks, it’s easy to assume they result from simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving commercial vehicles often involve complex factors that require thorough investigation.
In this case, it’s reported that the collision between two Freightliners resulted in a fire and injuries to the occupants of the rear-ended truck. Investigators will need to determine what led to the initial impact between the trucks. Were there issues with vehicle speed, following distance, or even mechanical failures? These are just a few of the potential contributing factors that could have played a role in the crash.
The fire that broke out following the collision is another critical aspect of the accident. Fires in commercial vehicle accidents can significantly increase the risk of severe injuries or fatalities. It will be essential for investigators to determine whether the fire was a direct result of the impact or if other factors, such as the type of cargo being hauled, played a role.
Additionally, the trucking companies responsible for these vehicles may share responsibility for the accident. Companies have a duty to ensure their drivers are properly trained and their vehicles are in good working order. If a company fails to enforce safety protocols, maintain its fleet, or ensure proper loading of cargo, it could be held accountable for its role in the crash.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
