Accident Report

Comanche County, OK — March 2, 2026, at least three students were injured in a truck-bus accident at about 3:45 p.m. on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike/Interstate 44 near Medicine Park.

Authorities said a southbound semi-truck towing a vehicle hauler collided with a bus just north of exit 45, causing the truck to jackknife in the median. The Elgin Public Schools bus crashed into the median as well.

At least three students suffered injuries severe enough to warrant a trip to the hospital, according to news reports. Two were transported by helicopter.

The bus, which had 39 people on it, was taking elementary and middle school students home from school, authorities said. Thirteen were listed as injured in a preliminary report on the crash.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Comanche County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people who read about this crash would likely assume that the truck driver wasn’t paying attention. Why else would a professional drive into the back of a bright yellow school bus filled with kids in the middle of the afternoon?

But what if the semi-truck had an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? The fact that it jackknifed after the crash hints at some kind of mechanical problem.

The investigation into this crash should include a careful examination of both vehicles to determine if a mechanical defect contributed to the collision. The probe should answer any questions those affected by this crash have about what happened.
