Laurens County, TX — August 1, 2024, one person was killed and another was injured following a truck accident along Interstate Highway 26.
According to authorities, a man had been traveling in a westbound camper on I.H. 26 in the vicinity of the I.H. 385 interchange when a tire reportedly blew out on the vehicle. It was subsequently pulled to the side and a man exited it in order to fix the tire.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a westbound 18-wheeler occupied by a 64-year-old man from Anderson sideswiped the disabled camper, leading to a loss of control; the truck reportedly went down an embankment where it apparently burst into flames.
The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered fatal injuries, according to reports. The man who had been attempting to fix the tire was hurt, as well, though the severity of those injuries remain unknown.
