Ford driver Toby Hinkle, 56, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities seem to have concluded that the Chevrolet caused this collision by crossing into the opposite lane of traffic, based on the decision to issue a traffic citation after the crash, but we don’t know yet what the evidence shows.

A thorough investigation will meld witness statements, evidence from the scene and data from both vehicles to determine if officers’ initial take was supported by facts, rather than assumptions. An independent investigation may be needed to figure out if either vehicle had a mechanical issue that may have contributed to the crash, since in my experience law enforcement agencies often don’t have the time or expertise for such examinations.
