Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Authorities say the Malibu continued driving from the scene, but the driver was ultimately apprehended. They believe that driver was under the influence of alcohol. Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me if that were true. It’s a common reason drivers try to flee the scene, and it’s just good that authorities found the person so they can ensure there are appropriate consequences. Of course, that needs to include any potential alcohol provider who may have over-served the alleged drunk driver. They too often are let off the hook when officials put too much focus on the drivers. Hopefully investigations here are being thorough enough not to let that happen.
