What concerns me the most is that there are two types of wrecks I’ve learned rarely get enough attention: single-vehicle wrecks and motorcycle wrecks. In both situations, the public is far too quick to just blame the driver and move on. In reality, this sort of crash can happen for a variety of reasons, and plenty are unavoidable. Mechanical defects, medical emergencies, road hazards or faulty road design, other drivers who then fled the scene, tire blowouts, etc.

The real challenge is that this bias often affects police investigations. I can’t begin to recall how many families have come to the firm to set the record straight after authorities blamed their loved one without so much as a proper accident reconstruction. I can’t say for sure what did or didn’t happen here, obviously. I just hope nothing important slips through the cracks because someone with an unfair bias couldn’t let the evidence speak for itself.
