Police alleged that the driver of the pickup was under the influence of alcohol at the time, and recommended a charge for intoxication manslaughter. If clear evidence ultimately shows those allegations are true, are authorities also looking into where the alcohol came from? When it comes to drunk driving accidents, people rightfully call for there to be consequences. But in Texas, drunk drivers aren’t always the sole party responsible for these kinds of accidents. Alcohol providers can also be held responsible.

Simply put, it’s illegal for bars and other alcohol providers to serve someone who is obviously intoxicated. This can expose them to criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, and even liability for resulting harm. I’ve handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol provides for their role in accidents like this one. The families I’ve worked with over the years wouldn’t have been satisfied just finding some bad guy to pin all the blame on. They wanted to see accountability, and that meant ensuring all wrongdoers were held accountable. That’s why this area of the law matters, and that’s why it should be concerning anytime it’s found authorities aren’t considering it.
