Coryell County, TX — June 8, 2024, Stephen Schmidt was injured and another person was killed following a car accident at approximately 11:30 a.m. on S.H. 36.
According to authorities, 64-year-old Stephen Schmidt was traveling in an eastbound Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck on S.H. 36 in the vicinity east of C.R. 358 when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound ATV occupied by an 82-year-old man on a private drive failed to yield the right of way to highway traffic for reasons yet to be confirmed. This led to a collision between the ATV and the pickup truck. Both vehicles traveled off of the north side of the roadway following the wreck, the truck crashing into a wired fence before coming to a stop.
The man who had been on the ATV suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Schmidt incurred serious injuries, according to reports, and was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
