Lancaster County, TX — November 22, 2023, two people were injured following a single-vehicle accident at around midnight along West Wintergreen Road.
Investigators said in their statements that the accident happened where Wintergreen Road, Dizzy Dean Drive, and West Telephone Road intersected.

Officials said that a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were in a Ford F-150 going westbound along Telephone Road. At Wintergreen, the vehicle apparently lost control and went off the southwest corner of the intersection. There, the vehicle crashed into a communications box. The crash caused the 20-year-old to have incapacitating injuries while authorities described the other man’s injuries as non-incapacitating.

Police said that they suspect alcohol, but nothing has been confirmed. It’s also not clear why they say that. Sometimes I have folks who call about a single vehicle accident where authorities said they might have been intoxicated, but evidence eventually showed they were completely sober. It can simply be due to authorities including alcohol because it’s such a common issue but failing to rule it out after moving on to other work.
That said, a lot of the personal injury cases against bars and other alcohol provider that I handle are single vehicle wrecks late at night or early in the morning. Like I said, it’s very common, so it wouldn’t at all be unusual if it turned out to be a factor here. My point is that folks shouldn’t jump to conclusions just because they see the word “alcohol.” There could be a lot more to the story authorities have yet to make public. Whether or not they’re actually looking for further information right now remains to be seen.
