Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a single-vehicle motorcycle accident results in serious injuries, as in this case, it’s important to take a closer look at what may have contributed to the crash. From my experience, three key questions need to be addressed: Did authorities conduct a thorough investigation? Could a mechanical issue or road condition have played a role? And has all available electronic evidence been gathered?
First, did law enforcement fully investigate the circumstances of the crash? Reports indicate the motorcycle failed to navigate a curve, left the roadway, and crashed into a pole. That description raises questions about whether speed, distraction, or another factor played a role. A proper investigation should include examining skid marks, vehicle damage, and any potential hazards in the area.
Second, could a mechanical failure or road condition have contributed? Motorcycles are more sensitive to issues like brake failures, tire blowouts, or road debris. If the rider encountered gravel, an uneven road surface, or a poorly marked curve, those factors could have played a role. Investigators should confirm whether the roadway was properly maintained and free of unexpected hazards.
Finally, has all available electronic data been collected? While motorcycles don’t always have the same data recorders as cars, some modern models do track critical information like speed and braking before a crash. Additionally, any nearby traffic cameras or surveillance footage could provide valuable insight. If this evidence isn’t gathered quickly, important details could be lost.
Accidents like this, where a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries, demand a meticulous investigation to uncover every contributing factor. Addressing these questions helps ensure the incident is fully understood and provides the foundation for any necessary steps to ensure accountability. A thorough investigation is the least that can be done to provide clarity and closure for those affected.
