Austin, TX — September 1, 2025, Sheyla Mascorro was killed as the result of an alleged drunk driver accident around 9:46 p.m. on East Ben White Blvd.
Austin Police officials say that the crash happened at the intersection of East Ben White Boulevard and Montopolis Drive.
According to officials, Sheyla Alejandra Mascorro was a passenger in a Honda Accord going eastbound along Ben White. In a series of events not clear, the Honda and another eastbound vehicle collided. Two people from that other vehicle reportedly fled the scene.
Due to the accident, Sheyla Mascorro was killed. It’s unclear if anyone else was hurt. While details aren’t confirmed, authorities reported alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash.

It’s not just important to know what happened but also why it happened. Why did the people who fled do so? Did they have warrants? Did they have something illegal in their possession? Was it due to drunk driving? And if alcohol did indeed contribute to this crash, was that alcohol provided unlawfully by a bar?
In Texas, it’s not just drunk drivers that can be responsible for a fatal accident. If a bar, for example, serves the drunk driver while they’re obviously intoxicated, the bar can also be legally responsible for contributing to a resulting fatal accident. That all isn’t just something authorities can throw some charges at. It takes thorough investigations, and it can even require exploring legal avenues beyond simple criminal charges.
