People generally think train accidents like this are open-and-shut, considering a train only really has one thing it can do. But likely or not, there could be extenuating circumstances that need further investigations.
Was there insufficient signage at the crossing? Did the guards and signal function properly? Did the victim’s vehicle have some kind of defect? Were they unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider? Have accidents like this happened at this crossing before? Did overgrowth obstruct visibility? At the end of the day, if authorities don’t at least work to rule out these possibilities, they could easily miss something important the victim’s loved ones deserve to know.
