Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

While I certainly don’t know more about this crash than what’s currently public, any single-vehicle accident is going to raise some common concerns. One, for example, is whether or not authorities even gave it the attention it needed. It would shock people to see how often I get calls from people who feel authorities brushed their accident aside or were otherwise so focused on blaming someone that they neglected to conduct proper investigations. That’s one of the reasons independent investigations are often more reliable in these situations.

Common or not, there are all kinds of possible factors worth investigating after a single-vehicle crash. Did the tires fail? Did the vehicle have a defect? Did seatbelts or airbags malfunction? Does the roadway have missing signage or design flaws? Was there another driver involved who left the scene? Was the victim able to give their statement before being sent to a hospital? Are there other extenuating circumstances authorities neglected to look into?

Sometimes, independent investigators ask these questions, and it turns out authorities were already thorough and answered them. Other times, independent investigations come up with all kinds of information authorities completely overlooked. At the end of the day, it’s important that the evidence is able to speak for itself. That’s why I have to wonder what steps were taken here to ensure nothing important slipped through the cracks in the investigations.
