Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It’s not entirely clear what happened here, but a bus driver receiving a citation after a crash obviously raises red flags. It doesn’t just raise questions about the driver’s actions, but it also brings up possible issues with the county or school district that employs that driver.
Was this just an isolated mistake, or have there been issues in the past? Was this a driver with a known history of making mistakes? Is there not enough supervision or screening of bus drivers to make sure they’re doing their jobs safely?
As parents, we trust these people with the well-being of our kids. If that can’t be guaranteed, then a simple traffic citations barely scratches the surface. It’s only reasonable that parents would want some assurances this sort of thing won’t happen again.
