Bee County, TX — July 21, 2024, a San Antonio man was injured as the result of a car accident at around 3:00 a.m. along U.S. Highway 181.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident took place between Pettus and Tuleta. The 29-year-old San Antonio man was in a Toyota Corolla going northbound along U.S. 181. For reasons unclear, the vehicle lost control and ran off-road. There, it crashed into a pole and a fence line. The driver reportedly had serious injuries as a result.

When it comes to single-vehicle wrecks, it can surprise people to learn how often they’re mishandled. There can be extenuating circumstances to consider, such as mechanical issues, faulty safety devices, drivers illegally over-served by alcohol providers, road design flaws, etc. Authorities instead tend to just blame the drivers and move on. Maybe they’ve been more thorough here, but experience taught me not to take that for granted.
