Lamar County, TX — January 31, 2024, Samuel Bristow was injured as the result of a car accident at around 7:22 a.m. on U.S. Highway 82.
Preliminary information released by authorities indicates that the accident happened west of town along westbound lanes of the highway near County Road 32150.

According to officials, 54-year-old Samuel Bristow was in a Nissan Maxima going along west U.S. 82. Bristow reportedly slowed down due to a school bus stopping to pick up students. While slowing, though, a pickup apparently failed to control speed and rear-ended Bristow’s vehicle. As a result, Bristow reportedly had serious injuries. Neither Bristow’s passenger nor the driver of the pickup had confirmed injuries.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
That disparity between injuries for the people involved in this crash concerns me. To be clear, I’m not going to suggest I know anything about this crash beyond what’s been stated publicly already. But generally speaking, people involved in crashes like this tend to experience comparable levels of harm. Having one person seriously injured while everyone else is seemingly fine can be a red flag that something meant to protect the victim failed to work as intended. Is that something authorities have already considered, or did they not think it was strange that only one person had serious injuries and no one else?
