How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people are quick to blame the rider when it comes to single-vehicle motorcycle accidents. I’ve been in this line of business for over three decades, though. I’ve come to think that motorcyclists get a bad rap. Why? Well, I’ve seen plenty of motorcycle accident cases over the years in which evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed by the investigation. As such, I’m not about to jump to conclusions.
To be transparent, I’m not trying to imply that I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation does. As far as I am aware, driver error remains on the table as a possible cause. However, I would like to point out that, hypothetically, the accident could have been caused by something gone wrong with the motorcycle itself. Motorcycles, after all, while smaller than passenger vehicles, are still complex machines. Did it experience brake failure? Was there an issue with the steering? Have tire blowouts or throttle problems been considered? Honestly, it could have been any number of things.
An in-depth vehicle inspection would bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role rather than allowing them to fly under the radar. Hopefully the authorities get one done. If they don’t, for whatever reason, then a third party investigation can always do so, instead. That way all the bases are covered. Plus it never hurts to have a second perspective go over things and ensure that nothing important falls through the cracks.
In the end, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding as to not only how it happened, buy why. That kind of clarity—real answers backed by solid evidence—can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
