Cameron County, TX — September 30, 2024 Officer Ruben Garcia was killed following a car accident that occurred around 6:45 P.M. on SH-48.
An investigation is underway into a car accident that left one person dead during the evening hours of September 30th. According to official reports Ruben Garcia, a Constable with Cameron County, was sitting in his patrol car when it was struck in the back by a Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
As a result of the impact, Garcia was left with injuries that would prove to be fatal and the driver of the pickup was hospitalized. The Chevy driver reportedly admitted to being distracted from looking at his phone just prior to the accident. At this time there are no further details available, and the accident remains under investigation.
