Accident Report
March 9, 2026, Robert Hines was killed as the result of a motorcycle accident at around 4:33 a.m. along FM 2477.
In their initial statements, authorities said that the crash took place near Highway 70 and I-40, west of McLean.
It appears that 56-year-old Robert Hines was on a motorcycle traveling eastbound along FM 2477. The motorcycle apparently lost control, and it crashed. Robert Hines died as a result.
Right now, additional details surrounding the crash have not been confirmed.
How Did This Accident Occur?
I always take early details about a fatal crash with a grain of salt. When the victim is on a motorcycle, though, I add another few pinches of salt. The unfortunate reality is that authorities and others in general are more likely to blame motorcyclists after a crash even before the evidence has all been confirmed. People just see riders as reckless daredevils, and that can lead them to jump to conclusions without ensuring there’s a proper investigation first. This can obviously create problems for the victim’s loved ones, who just want answers.
I have had cases in the past where authorities blamed a motorcyclist for circumstances beyond his control. I’ve also had cases where a rider did make a mistake, but there were more serious issues related to the crash that authorities ignored because they already made up their minds. This has included things like poorly maintained roads, reckless drivers who left the scene, bars who unlawfully over-served the riders prior to the crash, issues related to speed limits and poor lighting, etc.
Ultimately, I can’t say what did or didn’t happen here without seeing a complete, unbiased accident investigation. My concern is whether or not steps are being taken to give this crash the attention it deserves. If authorities can show they’re setting aside their bias and focusing on the facts, that would no doubt be reassuring for any grieving family. But if authorities are leaving questions unanswered or drawing conclusions with only half the picture completed, there could be more to this story that needs attention from more thorough independent investigators.
