Smith County, TX — July 3, 2025, Robert Chapman was injured as the result of a car accident at around 5:45 p.m. along County Road 371.
According to initial details about the accident, it took place south of the US 271 intersection a few miles west of Liberty City.
Investigators said that 37-year-old Robert Chapman was in a Chevy Equinox going southbound on County Road 371 at the time. Authorities say there was an animal in the road, and this led to a crash. Due to the accident, Robert Chapman reportedly sustained serious injuries.

People often see crashes involving animals in the road and figure that makes everything open-and-shut. However, it’s not always just about what caused a crash. Sometimes, it’s important to consider what caused the injuries. Let me explain.
I had a crash not long ago where authorities essentially moved on after preliminary investigations because they felt the facts seemed straight-forward. However, the family wanted a second opinion, so we made sure that independent investigators took a good look at the things authorities overlooked. As a result, inspections revealed the victim had a defective seatbelt. Had their seatbelt worked properly, they likely would have been okay. Instead, they suffered serious injuries.
Common or not, there can be extenuating circumstances that require investigations which go beyond the surface. Sometimes, authorities can cover that.
