Folks may think it’ll take no time at all for authorities to get answers here, but that’s because they don’t realize just how complex a single-vehicle crash investigation can be—when it’s done right. An experienced and well-equipped accident reconstructionist will consider things like mechanical issues, manufacturers’ defects, medical conditions, road design flaws, tire failure, possible hit-and-run drivers, and all kinds of other possibilities that even authorities may not have the tools to rule out.
Now, is it true that those investigations often find that the driver made a mistake? Sure, but the alternative is to simply ignore those less common possible factors and risk something important slipping through the cracks. That’s just not acceptable. Put simply, there are so many single-vehicle wrecks that some of them are bound to be the result of factors a driver simply couldn’t avoid. It would be irresponsible—not to mention harmful to the families—to jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts.
