Freestone County, TX — March 29, 2024, Rebecca Pate was killed following a firetruck accident at around 12:18 a.m. along Farm-to-Market 1365.
Authorities said that the collision took place in the area of the F.M. 1365 and F.M. 2777 intersection.

According to officials, 71-year-old Rebecca Ann Pate was in a Kia Sorento going eastbound on F.M. 1365. Up ahead, there was a firetruck blocking a previous accident scene. Somehow, the Kia crashed into the back of the firetruck. As a result, Pate sustained fatal injuries.

Without more details than that, I would hope no one is jumping to conclusions. Too often, though, I see folks more concerned with being the first to blame someone than waiting for the facts. Even in crashes like this, there’s no telling what factors may have been involved. Were there issues with visibility? Did a mechanical defect lead to the crash? Were there issues with road itself?
Likely or not, failing to consider something just risks a victim’s loved ones being left in the dark about what happened. That’s why I always talk about the importance of thorough accident reconstructions, either from authorities or from independent investigators if authorities aren’t giving an accident the attention it deserves. I see no reason why this crash would be an exception.
