Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One can only wonder how vehicles on a fixed path can end up colliding like this, but it does happen. I wonder if there was some serious miscommunication that led to one of the trains being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Who was responsible for seeing this didn’t happen, and what led to the slip up?

Getting these answers could be more of a hurdle than folks may realize. Railway accidents can be incredibly complex, considering the companies involved, the government agencies brought in to investigate things, and due to the fact that many aspects of the industry fall under federal law. For that reason, there are almost always unique challenges for victims and families involved in these sorts of incidents, and important details can easily slip through the cracks if authorities aren’t keeping the needs of the victims and families as a priority. It remains to be seen if they’re taking that care here.
