UPDATE (April 30, 2024): Recent reports have been released which clarify what occurred leading up to and during this accident. According to these reports, 32-year-old Pedro Negrete, of El Paso, was traveling in a westbound Ford Focus on I.H. 10 in the area between Zaragoza Road and Lee Trevino Drive when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that the Focus may have been traveling at high speeds leading up to the wreck. Reports state that it swerved toward the right for as yet unknown reasons, leaving the active lanes of the freeway and colliding with a sign pole in the median. It then continued its westward trajectory within the median where it eventually struck a second pole before heading northwest, entering the active lanes of Gateway West, and coming to a stop.
Negrete incurred fatal injuries as a result. The investigation continues.
El Paso, TX — April 29, 2024, one person was killed following a single-car accident at approximately 2:20 a.m. along Gateway Boulevard West.
According to authorities, the accident occurred on Gateway Boulevard West near the Zaragoza Road overpass.
The cause of the wreck is still unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a motor-vehicle was involved in a single-car accident. One victim suffered reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the crash. No other injuries have been reported.
The weather and road conditions in the area at the time have not been reported on. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
