St. Louis, MO — August 14, 2024, a man was killed in a pedestrian versus truck accident at approximately 7:00 p.m. along Interstate Highway 44.
According to authorities, a man was attempting to change the tire on his vehicle along the side of the westbound lanes of I.H. 44 in the vicinity of Broadway when the accident took place.
The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the man was struck by an 18-wheeler. He suffered reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and was declared deceased at the scene. The truck apparently pulled over to the side of the road a couple of miles from the accident site. Each of these possibilities needs to be carefully examined to determine how the collision occurred.
The trucking company could also be a significant part of the investigation. If the truck involved was operating under a company’s authority, they may share responsibility for what happened. Did they ensure that the truck was properly maintained? Was the driver well-trained and fit to be on the road? These are vital questions that need answering.
