Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With single-vehicle wrecks, one of my main concerns is always how thorough authorities are with their investigations. I get calls all the time from folks who feel authorities aren’t getting the whole story. A significant portion of those calls are about single-vehicle wrecks. They’re just not often seen as a high priority, so important details can slip through the cracks.

For example, I handled a case that a family was concerned about because authorities thought the victim hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt. That seemed unusual, so they wanted a second opinion. A more thorough independent investigation revealed the victim’s seatbelt unknowingly had a defect, which was ultimately the cause of the injuries. Had there not been more thorough investigations, the full story may never have come to light.

I’m not saying anything like that happened here, but it’s something to consider after any serious single-vehicle accident. It remains to be seen whether or not authorities are taking proper steps here to get answers.
