Houston, TX — April 6, 2023, one person was killed due to an accident between a motorcycle and a delivery van along Galveston Road.
Initial details released by Houston officials say that the crash took place just before 9:00 a.m. in the area of Galveston Road between Brookglen Drive and Winkler Drive.
It appears that a Harley-Davidson was going northbound along Galveston at the time. Ahead, details say an oncoming delivery van attempted to make a u-turn. The motorcycle then crashed into the right side of the van.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist succumbed to fatal injuries. No charges have been reported, and no further information about the crash can be confirmed at this time.

I just want to be clear up front that I don’t know more about this particular crash than what authorities reported to the public already. But I can’t help wondering if they left out a major detail or if this is just a horrific case of a driver being reckless.
When I look at the stretch of road listed in reports from the authorities, it appears to be a straight, flat road with a clear line of sight and no protected turns. At just before 9:00 a.m., it’s possible that the sun was pointing into the view of the van driver. But if they weren’t absolutely certain that oncoming traffic was clear—which it obviously wasn’t—would it have been reasonable to attempt a u-turn?
I just can’t help thinking about all of the motorcyclists and families of motorcyclists that have come to me over the years because someone in a larger vehicle wasn’t keeping a proper lookout for the smaller bikes. Despite the fact some people are quick to blame motorcyclists, riders are often incredibly safe specifically because there are so many drivers who don’t watch for smaller vehicles. Could this be yet another one of those situations?
Maybe there’s more to this story than what we’re seeing right now. Maybe any responsible, attentive driver would have been involved in a collision here, or maybe this is just another case of reckless driving taking the life of a motorcyclist. Either way, it will no doubt take more thorough investigations to get the victim’s loved ones the answers they deserve.
