Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When crashes like this one occur, people might assume they are caused by simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving large vehicles require looking beyond the surface details and digging into every layer of possible contributing factors.

What could cause a log truck to veer into an oncoming lane and cause such a devastating head-on collision? Was the driver distracted or fatigued, or did a mechanical issue arise that made it impossible to control the vehicle? These are critical questions that need thorough investigation to provide clarity.

One area that demands scrutiny is the operation and maintenance of the log truck. Given the size and weight of these vehicles, even minor issues like brake malfunctions or steering defects can result in catastrophic consequences. Was the truck properly inspected and maintained, or did a preventable failure contribute to this crash?

Additionally, it’s worth considering whether the trucking company that owns or operates the log truck played any role in what happened. Did they pressure the driver to meet unreasonable deadlines, potentially leading to unsafe practices? Were they diligent in hiring, training, and monitoring the driver? These questions can shed light on whether systemic failures within the company may have contributed to the wreck.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
