UPDATE (July 19, 2023): According to information from authorities, one person involved in the crash succumbed to their injuries. That person was a 61-year-old who was in a Chevy Silverado that was going southbound on Loop 571. That vehicle was hit by a westbound Ford Fusion which authorities say went through a stop sign.

The driver of the Chevy was identified as Michael Dean Oliver, who reportedly had incapacitating injuries. A 49-year-old woman in the Chevy and a 22-year-old man in the Ford also had incapacitating injuries. Authorities also clarified that the incident happened just after midnight. Right now, no further information can be confirmed.

According to preliminary details from Rusk County officials, the incident happened in the area of the Loop 571 and Highway 323 intersection.

Three of those people were reportedly taken by ground transport while the fourth had injuries which required air transportation.

There is no indication of what exactly caused the wreck, and authorities do not currently report any pending charges or citations. Investigations are ongoing.
