Jasper County, TX — March 12, 2023, Mayra Davidson, Paul Davidson, Daniel Simon, and another driver were injured in an alleged drunk driving accident on RR 255.

Authorities said the crash happened just before 3:00 p.m. on Recreational Road 255 along the Lake Sam Rayburn dam. It appears that 76-year-old Mayra Davidson, 80-year-old Paul Davidson, and 41-year-old Daniel Simon were in a Ford F-150 traveling westbound along RR 255. It appears an oncoming Toyota Tundra crossed onto the wrong side of the road and crashed head-on into the Ford.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Intoxicated driving isn’t exactly common in the middle of the afternoon, but it isn’t unheard of, either. Even on a Sunday, people can get started rather early. For example, it would surprise people to see how often restaurants find themselves in court for over-serving people and contributing to serious drunk driving wrecks because they have no limits on serving people things like bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys as early as 11:00 a.m.

I’m not saying that happened here, of course. Current reports aren’t even clear whether or not police believe this was alcohol or drug related, and investigations could show there were other factors altogether that led to the crash. I just want to remind people that what is or isn’t likely shouldn’t have an effect on how thorough investigations are. A prudent investigator knows to let the evidence speak for itself, and I can only hope authorities here aren’t ruling anything out without good reason.
