Graves County, KY — June 17, 2023, Mark Smith was killed following a semi-truck accident at around 8:50 a.m. along Highway 97.
Authorities with the Graves County Sheriff’s office were called out to the area of the State Highway 97 and Burnetts Chapel Road.
According to officials, 62-year-old Mark Smith was said to be the driver of a semi-truck that had been going northbound along the highway. For reasons not currently clear, the truck lost control while rounding a curve. The truck ended up going off-road where it hit a pole, went through a culvert, and then overturned.
When the truck overturned, a fire sparked and ultimately engulfed the whole truck. Details in the news say that rescue workers couldn’t reach Smith in time, and he succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene. Right now, there is no indication of anyone else being involved in the fatal crash. Additional details about the accident are unavailable at this time.
