Officials confirmed that Newberry Police Department Lieutenant Michael Woods, 48, suffered severe injuries in the crash and was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Lieutenant Woods died due to his injuries while in the hospital. Other injuries reported were those of the tractor-trailer driver, who was also taken to a hospital.
