How Did This Accident Occur?
A lot of people see motorcycle accidents and automatically speculate about what the rider did wrong. It’s all too common for people to look at motorcyclists as reckless daredevils just because they have a a preconceived image of what motorcyclists are like. In my experience, though, many are safe drivers. That’s why it’s best to consider all possibilities and let the evidence speak for itself.
For example, what are road conditions like in this area? Is the surface well-maintained, or are there large potholes and uneven surfaces? That could easily cause a rider to suddenly lose control of their bike—especially late at night when visibility is bad. But if investigations are too shallow or too quick, they may overlook crucial evidence that could show the rider was a victim of circumstances beyond their control.
I’m certainly not suggesting anyone ignore possibilities like unsafe speeds, fatigue, or alcohol. Those obviously need attention, as well. If authorities are being unbiased and fair to the victim, they should be able to rule out even unlikely possible factors before making any conclusions. Sometimes, though, it’s up to independent investigators to set that bias aside and make sure the evidence tells the story.
