Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

A truck careening off the highway like this obviously brings up some serious concerns. Was the driver on their phone? Did they fall asleep at the wheel? Did cargo shift and pull the truck out of its lane? Did a tire blow out? Was there some kind of medical emergency? Did the truck experience a mechanical failure due to a defect or poor maintenance?

Likely or not, these are potential factors which need thorough investigations. If authorities can show that they’re dedicating the time and tools needed to look into these possible factors, then it would be reassuring. A lot of the time, though, a chaotic series of events like this is going to require efforts from more dedicated independent accident reconstructionists who can ensure nothing unusual slips through the cracks.
