Considering there appears to be a stop sign on F.M. 2555, this seems to be yet another example of how dangerous it is for motorcyclists out there. A lot of people aren’t keeping a proper lookout for smaller vehicles. It wouldn’t be unusual if that’s what happened here.

Despite this, there’s always a concern about how people are going to view the crash if there isn’t clear evidence of what led to the crash. Simply put, many people have a negative bias against motorcyclists and are quick to assume the rider was doing something wrong. Insurance companies know this, and it’s a prime target for them to shift the blame. For example, they know that if they were to blame someone in a car for being reckless, people wouldn’t likely buy it without evidence. With motorcyclists, though, people are more likely to believe those accusations even when there’s no evidence just because it affirms their preconceived negative views of motorcyclists.

By ensuring there are thorough investigations, though, even a negative bias like that isn’t likely to find footing. People are generally able to put bias aside when the facts are staring them in the face. That’s why there often must be a lot more than a preliminary crash investigation following accidents like this. That way, the victims and families affected by the crash can ensure their side of the story has as much supporting evidence as possible to overcome whatever hurdles may stand between them and the resolution they deserve.
