El Paso, TX — February 4, 2024, Kristopher Shull was killed as the result of a motorcycle accident at 5:55 p.m. on Alcan Street.

Details suggest that the accident occurred at the intersection of Alcan Street and Sun Valley Drive.

According to officials, 42-year-old Kristopher Shull was driving a motorcycle northbound along Alcan. At Sun Valley, the motorcycle apparently slowed before proceeding through the intersection. That’s when, according to authorities, a westbound Nissan Sentra went through the stop sign, and the vehicles collided. As a result, Shull sustained serious injuries which later proved to be fatal. The other driver wasn’t hurt.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

While police seem to paint a relatively clear picture here, it’s important to note that there is no such thing as a straight-forward motorcycle accident. Despite how many riders fall victim to larger vehicles, a lot of people still harbor a bias against motorcyclists and assume they’re all reckless. No one knows this more than insurance companies looking to shift blame onto victims after a deadly crash.

Insurance companies always try to shift blame, but they know a lot of people are more willing to believe negative claims about motorcyclists. Saying a victim was being reckless will often be met with skepticism if there’s no supporting evidence. Put that victim on two wheels, though, and that reasonable skepticism flies out the window. That’s why it’s so much more important for victims and families involved in motorcycle wrecks to have evidence and arguments prepared to ensure there’s no ground for any flimsy defense to stand on. Right now, I don’t see any reason to think this motorcycle wreck is an exception to that.
